Health, Safety and Risk Management - Educational Visits

School visits have always been an integral part of a child's education providing the opportunity to develop key personal and social skills. The experience of outside and adventure activities can be invaluable.
A small number of tragic accidents have led to concerns about the future of school visits and we recognise the need to balance the management of higher risk activities against potentially overly burdensome paperwork using sensible risk management.

Specialist Category of Service (SCS)

You will have access to policy documents and risk assessments that you can tailor for your specific needs. We will review and approve every visit.

Our purpose built online management portal will streamline the whole process of Education Visit Approvals. You will be able to complete our on-line forms, which will guide you through the information and requirements you need for your visit, alternatively upload your school specific forms.

You will receive automatic confirmation throughout the process, so that you will know who has reviewed it and when it has been completed and approved. We will provide personal support so you can be assured that all educational visits (category A to C) are undertaken safely and in compliance with current legislation. We will work with your staff and provide training to complete all necessary risk assessments.
Using the online Plumsun Management Portal (PMP), you will have a fully auditable process, so that you are in total control and have up to date information to hand for all visits. You will be able to obtain detailed reports of all visits planned or previously undertaken, and even drill down to individual student profiles for visits. Key staff will also have remote access to all relevant documentation including critical incident and emergency plans in an emergency situation.

Tailored Provision and Training (TPT)

Our training courses are led and certified by an experienced member of the Outdoor Education Advisers Panel. Our courses will be delivered in a practical way and will inform on the requirements of the law.

The Educational Visit Coordinator’s (EVC’s) role is to help the school fulfill its Health and Safety obligations for off-site school visits, by being involved in the planning and management of all educational visits including sporting fixtures and adventure activities led by school staff.

We provide Educational Visits Coordinator training, Educational Visits Coordinator Re-validation (0.5 day) and Off-Site Visit Leader training to teachers, leaders and support staff.
Training provides for planning safe and educationally beneficial off-site visits. The training will encourage out of classroom learning and will provide confidence to those who may have concerns about safety issues.

We will bring trained EVCs up-to-date with current Health and Safety matters relevant to school visits and give them an opportunity to network with EVCs from other schools to share best practice ideas using our discussion forum, exclusive to Plumsun.
